Tech Tip: Accessing Leveling Nuts

Light poles are installed with leveling nuts under the base plate. There are some reports of poles being set directly on top of a level footing, however this is not structurally sound and very uncommon. If you’re replacing a pole and it appears to not have leveling nuts and washers, chip away concrete around the bolt to expose the nuts and washers. This will let you use these nuts to level the pole. In most cases the concrete on the top of the footing is decorative dry pack and will chip off easily in large chunks.
